The Gratitude Project - September 3 - 4
Sep. 4th, 2008 09:10 pmI feel a deep gratitude for the season, even for the storms that are part of nature's less pretty side. Change is seldom pretty until it is complete. It's rough, patchy and turbulent while it is happening.
I am grateful for change, especially the kind that comes from a sudden flash of consciousness. Goddess Athena is dropping feathers for me at a frenetic pace. I saw three on the stairs this morning. Suddenly, I understood what they meant. Every feather I saw has been grey, colorless, nearly invisible except to one whose sensitivity to such things is heightened.
I am feeling the pull of bright color. The whole time I was away last week, I kept finding beautiful colors in clothing. Bright Guatemalan bags, colorful Indian kurtas, lots of vibrant tribal items. I kept asking my friend Nina where we could find things like this at home. We don't have shops like that. Everyone here wears black, slick and heartless designs that are uniforms of sorts. Things you can buy in any department store.
I am grateful for things made by hand, for the imperfections and character that come alive in this work.
